May 15, 2006 Notes & Asides: The threat to Hong Kong is lessening with
time. Typhoon Chanchu is showing more signs of recurvature, the models are
trending eastward, and all forecasts from the respected weather agencies are
projecting a landfall east of Hong Kong. The cities of Xiamen and Shantou may
encounter the worst weather once Chanchu hits land. Fortunately, Chanchu is
forecast to be a shell of its former self by landfall. Luckily this typhoon
didn't threaten during August or September, when conditions remain highly
conducive much more frequently. You can find all of HKO's warnings here.
